Elo Market Insights is a short read for people who sell media. Each edition pulls public signals from the last few weeks: what brands told investors about marketing spend, who won or moved an account, who just took over a marketing team, and what launches are coming. Every item links to its source. Where we read between the lines, we say so. A spend signal is a signal, not a confirmed plan, and nobody should pitch it as fact.

How to read this brief

Each item has the same shape: what the source actually says, the date, the link, and a seller angle. The seller angle is our read, written by people who have carried a media quota. Use it as a starting point for your own research, then check the source before you reach out.

  4. Arby's: Jenna Bromberg, former Papa Johns CMO, starts as CMO on Nov 2
  5. Netflix: 2026 ad revenue outlook cut to about $2.7 billion, ad tier expanding to 15 countries in 2027

The six public signals in this edition
The six public signals in Edition 1. Sources are linked under each item.

1. PepsiCo: Double-digit U.S. advertising increases, more support for soft drinks

CPG · Earnings call · Oct 8, 2026

  • On the Q3 2026 call, CEO Ramon Laguarta said PepsiCo had "double-digit A&M in both businesses in the U.S. this quarter" and will "continue to invest in A&M going forward."
  • He said the company will "invest more behind Poppi, Pepsi, Mountain Dew" in soft drinks, and is working with Publicis to invest "with much more data, much more granularity."
  • Detailed 2027 guidance is due in February 2027.

Seller angle: Signal, not a confirmed plan: soft drink brands are where management said new money goes, and the Publicis tie-up points to data-led buying. Lead with how your audience or format can be measured against a specific brand goal, not with reach.

2. Target: Holiday "Academy of Giftology" breaks in early November, with a heavier creator push

Retail · Campaign launch and CMO move · Oct 21, 2026

  • Target's holiday campaign debuts in early November. Marketing Dive reports the media plan "spans broadcast, streaming, audio, out-of-home and social."
  • Target's chief brand officer said the company is focused on TikTok and YouTube, "where it is making a heavier push this year," and its Club Target creator program left beta in May.
  • Mark Weinstein joined as chief marketing and guest experience officer from Hilton in September. Indie agency Mythology developed the campaign.

Seller angle: The holiday plan is set, so a cold pitch for it now is late. The opening is a note to the new CMO with one idea for January and Q1, and creator-adjacent or in-store formats that fit what Target said it values.

3. Capital One: Marketing up 14% year over year, and management says it will "lean harder" in 2027

Finance · Earnings call · Oct 20, 2026

  • Q3 2026 marketing expense was about $1.6 billion, up 14% year over year, "driven by higher direct marketing in our domestic card business, increased media spend, and continuing investments in premium benefits."
  • CEO Richard Fairbank said: "we expect to lean harder into marketing in 2027" and "we plan to now lean back into Discover marketing."
  • He also said marketing is "really the engine" for growing the national bank, and Brex will get more marketing dollars "over the coming months."

Seller angle: This is one of the clearest spend signals in the edition, because management said it on the record. Three separate stories to pitch: rebuilding Discover's brand, a national bank with few branches, and premium cards for heavy spenders. Pick the one your audience fits.

4. Arby's: Jenna Bromberg, former Papa Johns CMO, starts as CMO on Nov 2

QSR · New CMO · Oct 15, 2026

  • Inspire Brands named Jenna Bromberg Arby's chief marketing officer, effective November 2. She was most recently CMO at Papa Johns.
  • She will lead all marketing, "focused on accelerating top-line profitability through innovation and value," guest engagement, "culinary storytelling and highly personalized digital experiences."
  • Former marketing lead Jeff Baker moves to VP, category management and culinary innovation.

Seller angle: A new CMO usually reviews what is working before committing new money (an inference, not something Arby's said). Do not pitch her first week. Send a short note that names her stated priorities, value and personalized digital, with one idea for each.

5. Netflix: 2026 ad revenue outlook cut to about $2.7 billion, ad tier expanding to 15 countries in 2027

Entertainment · Earnings · Oct 20, 2026

  • Netflix now expects about $2.7 billion in 2026 advertising revenue, down from a $3 billion forecast, citing a "slightly slower than expected rollout of some ad product capabilities."
  • It plans to launch its ad-supported tier in 15 new countries in 2027, starting in March 2027 with nine European countries plus Colombia, Peru and New Zealand.

Seller angle: Two uses. If you sell streaming or CTV, the slower ad-product rollout is a talking point with buyers comparing options (do not claim budgets are moving, nobody said that). If you sell ad tech, measurement or data, the 2027 country launches are a partnership conversation.

6. General Motors: Completing launches of the 2027 Silverado and Sierra, with Super Cruise expanding on trucks

Auto · Shareholder letter · Oct 20, 2026

  • Mary Barra's Q3 letter says GM will "complete the launches of the all-new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light duty pickups," followed by next-generation heavy duty pickups, full-size SUVs and new Cadillac sedans and crossovers.
  • Super Cruise becomes standard on high-end Silverado and Sierra trims and optional on most others, and GM expects Super Cruise penetration in its truck portfolio "to grow 4-5x next year."

Seller angle: Signal, not a confirmed plan: the letter talks about product launches, not media budgets. Launches of core trucks usually come with launch marketing, so truck-buyer audiences and tech-feature storytelling (Super Cruise) are the angles to bring.
